As part of the national cycle routes scheme Hertfordshire Highways and Sustrans are planning the Watford to Harpenden section of Route 6. This involves using Watford Road then taking one of three options proposed to opposite the King Harry Lane entrance to Verulamium Park.
The three options involve going behind the Scout hut on Watford Road and using Westfields.
One route would proceed north along Abbey Avenue, King Harry Lane would be moved slightly to offer a cycle track which would then use a widenened path in front of the playing fields.
Another route would leave Westfields at Rowlatt Drive and proceed along a footpath joining and using the path alongside the playing fields hedge opposite the top end of Westfields
Another route would continue up Westfields past the mini-roundabout then left along a short path by a set of garages to join the spinal pathway leading to Waitrose car park and the school. There it would cut across the island and turn North across Mayne Avenue to King Harry Lane finishing some 1-200m West of the entrance to the Park.
The closing date for the public consultation is 12 August 2004.
