Letter sent to the Herts Advertiser and published on Thurs Jan 6th 2005
Sir – My best present during the festive season was your editorial comment (Herts Advertiser, December 30) on the decision of the East of England Regional Assembly to withdraw its approval for the proposed housing development in our area because of totally inadequate provision for the infrastructure to support this development. One can only hope that St. Albans District Council will follow their lead and refuse to approve housing plans in areas where the infrastructure is already totally inadequate. Anyone who has daily sat trapped in the gridlock along King Harry Lane and Watford Road must earnestly entreat the council to reject any proposal to build houses on the King Harry Playing fields. To allow vehicles from over 350 extra dwellings to spew out onto these main roads would be the height of folly and a betrayal of responsibility to the citizens of St. Albans generally. This is not “nimby-ism” but sheer common sense.
