RAIL

The principal rail service operates from the City station and is operated by Thameslink. Normally it runs from Bedford to Brighton, Moorgate and the south London loop. However from 11 September 2004 for six months the line will only go as far south as the temporary St. Pancras station necessitating a walk to rejoin the line at Kings Cross Thameslink station if you wish to travel further south on Thameslink. The Moorgate branch will also be closed during this period. West Hampstead and Kentish Town will be closed southbound during morning rush-hours.

The journey time for fast trains to Kings Cross / St. Pancras is 20 minutes. Live departure board.

Luton Parkway for the Airport and Gatwick are also served. Note that West Hampstead is a useful interchange station.

There is also a line from St. Albans Abbey to Watford Junction. This generally operates on a 40 minute cycle and hence does not run at the same time each hour. This offers connections to the West Coast line for Euston and the North West also Kensington Olympia.
